About (& How to Join)

The idea of the Brighton & Hove Baking Club is for members to get together to share their baking, recipes and chat.  It's an informal club with no competition, just a bit of fun and a great way to get to know new people in the local area, swap baking ideas and inspire you to bake more. There are no limits on what you can bake - pies, tarts, savoury, sweet, cakes of all shapes and sizes are all welcome.  Basically anything baked.  We're not strict!  Bakers of all levels are welcome.

The club has been set up by Bex in the hope of sharing her love of baking with like-minded people.  You can read more about her plans and background in the introduction blog post.

Meetings:

Meetings will be held every 2 months or so.  A venue will be arranged and a blog post published with details of the date, theme and contact details.  See below how to take part and then just bring along your bake and have fun!  (Previous examples of themes Bex took part in with Glasgow Baking Club include: Pink, Picnic and Birthday.  There was even a joint meeting with the Edinburgh Cake Ladies with a Showstopper theme.)

Meetings will usually be arranged to take part on weekends or weekday evenings.  Each meeting will have a write up on the blog and there will be photos of each bake and links to recipes used.  If you want to share recipes, you can send your recipe in to be featured on the Brighton & Hove Baking Club blog and/or bring along copies to swap at the meeting if you wish.

How to join in:

Just sign up for the blog update emails and contact Bex when a post is published announcing the next meeting.  Send an email indicating your choice of what you want to bake to reserve your place.  If we receive any duplicate bakes, you will be asked to choose another option.  Places (and choice of bake) will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

Venue address details will be sent out to participants one week before the meeting.  On the day/night, just bring along your baking and something to display it on (and a knife if required).

Venues:

We will try to hold our meetings in different venues throughout the year. There may be limits on numbers depending on where each meeting is held. Sometimes venues may be in members' homes, sometimes cafes or other suitable establishments. We look for venues who are happy to give us a table/space/corner to meet in return for beverage purchases as well as publicity on the Brighton & Hove Baking Club Blog.   They must of course be happy for us to bring in our own bakes.

If you are a venue in Brighton or Hove and interested in hosting one of our meetings, please email Bex.  (To see previous examples - please see Bex's club report posts on the Glasgow Baking Club blog.)

Disclaimer:

In taking part in Brighton & Hove Baking Club you agree to ensure anything you bake is made in a food safe environment and is hygienically prepared.  Brighton & Hove Baking Club can not be held responsible for any illness following eating baking provided by members.

We do not make any profit from holding meetings.  Baking club is free to attend, just bring some cash to buy your own drinks at venues.  We may occasionally hold an event in order to raise funds for a charity and a donation may be suggested but is not compulsory.  If an event is to be held in a park or someone's home (or the beach!) drinks will be provided and a suggested contribution will be indicated in the email.  Any excess funds from these events will be donated to an agreed charity.
