Introductions & Sign Up

Hi!  If you've stumbled upon this blog, you're probably interested in baking.  This is just a wee introduction page for now as I recently found out I will be moving to Brighton from Glasgow this summer and since I am moving to a brand new city, I thought the perfect way to meet like minded people would be to start a baking club.  (I do like to be proactive!)  It's all very exciting but I have never even been to Brighton before and it's such a long way south so it will be a big adjustment and I will miss my friends in Glasgow terribly.  I hope having some fun plans to look forward to will help make the big move easier.

Of course I did check if there was already a baking club in Brighton (stepping on toes won't make me any friends!) but I could only find the Clandestine Cake Club.  Unfortunately they have rules and only make cakes, not even cupcakes are allowed.  As much as I love cake, I particularly love all different kinds of baking and through helping to run the Glasgow Baking Club I've enjoyed baking (and tasting) all manner of different treats including the odd savoury option!  So, to continue sharing my love of baking, I would like to start a new club which welcomes all kinds of baking - pies, tarts, cakes (including cupcakes), traybakes, biscuits...

Obviously the first meeting won't be for a while as I don't live in Brighton yet but I just wanted to gauge interest in the meantime, get word out and invite people to sign up for updates.  (I'll be jazzing up the blog page soon too!)

If you want to see what Glasgow Baking Club has been up to in the past, please see the blog here.  I took over as one of the organisers a year ago now and have been writing the blog posts since then as well as taking the photos, helping to organise venues and running the spreadsheet (I do love a spreadsheet!) for sign ups and details.  I will miss it so much when I move and thought starting a new club would be the perfect opportunity to make new friends in a city I don't know.

I propose to hold meetings every 2 months or so (maybe more often depending on interest) and each meeting will have a theme of some kind.  The idea is that you bake something you love and we all join up to taste the yummy goodies and chat about baking, life, whatever.  We can swap recipes and generally have a nice time while eating lots of baked goods and enjoying drinks from whichever venue we happen to be at.  There's nothing competitive about it, it's just a bit of fun and a great way to meet new people.  I've met some lovely ladies and gents of all ages and backgrounds through Glasgow Baking Club and would love to have the same success when I move to Sussex!  :)
